I just purchased a 302 for my 1975 maverick. I need all of the emissions under the hood to appear like they are there in my (state/county) in order to pass inspection . The 302 I have is a 76 but of course all the emissions were taken off. I have some of the brackets. What I want to know is for 1975 what was the stock configuration on the 302 emissions/vacuum setup? Is there a diagram of some type that anyone has that I can use? I also still have the 250 and I have all the emissions that came with it. Can I use anything off of the 250? Anyone’s help would be greatly appreciated.
Wow ... 75 needs emissions in PA .. that sucks ... The Atlanta, GA area is only 1981 and up vehicles .. and most counties have no emissions test ... How the heck would somebody at the inspection station even now would should be on a 1975 Maverick?
Yeah, I think last year is when they changed it because I had to make sure that I had all of my emissions appear like they were there on the 250 in order to pass. If I remember right its anything above 1973 needs to have a visual emissions test.
From what I understand I have to have all of the vaccum lines going to where they need to be or at least look like they are going where they need to be. I am sure if I got the right guy to inspect it there would be no problem but I have been talking to my father and it sounds like I need everything.
arizona required my maverick to have an idle test only....gotta love it..... 1st year i blew away the requirments......better than my friends brand new car.... 2nd year it was mid way through it.... since i had larger rods in the carb but still got it in
Daniel, you have a PM. If you really want to get around the emission problem and you don't need the car as a daily driver, put classic tags on the car. All the emission equipment has been removed from my 77' Maverick, and with the classic tags my car is exempt from emission testing.
The Peoples Republic Of California You guys are lucky. Untill a few years ago, it was 1966 and later that had to be smogged in most of CA. 66 and later CA cars had smog and a lot of 66-67 CA cars had air pumps, 49 state cars did not even have a standard for smog untill 68! You should have seen the smog guy try to figure out what my 1968 IHC Scout was supposed to have! Now it is 1976 and later that need smog testing, and the rolling exemption for cars 30 years old (ie 1976 Maverick would be exempt in 2006) has been repealed, so it will stay at this for a long time. Some rural counties are still exempt, but their days are numbered.
The emission testing in Pa is a joke. It's purpose was to improve the air quality, but even the inspection station owners will tell you it's just a money making racket. Until just last year, the county I lived in was exempt from emission testing. The county just south of mine had the full emission testing including a visual test and a ' sniffer' test from the tailpipes. The state made all the inspection stations purchase thousands of dollers of emission testing equipment, only to come to the conclusion that the testing wasn't working so they dropped program. The station owners were stuck with all this equipment they would never use again. Now the state decided to start it back up again, and the inspection stations had to buy NEW equipment AGAIN to do the test. They were not happy. The state also decided to start emission testing in my county, but with a catch. The inspection stations are only required to check and see if the car or truck has all it's smog equipment in place. It doesn't even have to work. It just has to be there. My neighbor had removed all the smog crap from his truck years ago. He put the cat converter back on ( it was empty) but not the smog pump. When he got the truck inspected, he opened the hood, set a smog pump down on the engine, stuck the vacum line under the carb and said " There it is." The result: Yes he had a smog pump on his engine that appeared to be hooked up, therefore, the truck passed inspection.
