i've got a 76 comet that i am in the middle of swapping in a 302/c4 it was originally a 6 cyl car the biggest thing that i am running into is the motor mounts and the headers i really don't know how to even begin to mount the new motor is their some kind of mounts that i can get that will bolt in where the 6 cyl perches were, then just buy motor mounts for a v8 comet thats the biggest thing that is giving me a problem oh and by the way this is an awesome sight i've looked for a good comet / maverick website for years and i just stumbled on this one by accident and all the members cars that i've looked at are also awesome i didn't think their was this many of these cars left and i definately didn't think this many people actually liked them most people that i tell i have a comet don't even know what a comet is
Frame mounts from any 302 Maverick or Comet will bolt in place of the 6 cylinder ones. You should be able to buy the engine mounts new at any auto parts store. Run a search on here for 302 headers, and I think you'll get plenty of answers on that.
i have a set of headers that my stepdad bought for the car but i'm not sure if they'll work or not i had a set of shorties but they wouldn't clear the shock towers
These links will give you a good idea of what is needed http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=4581 http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=13169&highlight=engine+swap
just called auto zone and the mounts are $11.99 each there so i ordered two to pick up tomorrow but the next problem is the frame mounts their not even a dealer item i don't think so if anyone has any for sale i need some of those aslo and i think that my headers will work so maybe i've got this thing figured out
Post in the Parts Wanted section, I'm sure someone on here has some for sale. If not, try your local junk yards or ebay.
What's up. I'm still alive and kicking. I just dropped the engine in my Comet yesterday, but ran into a stump when the motor mounts I had kept from a Maverick did not fit. I think I'm missing a bracket from the chassie, and I recall seeing info on this site.
Autokrafters has all the stuff you would need. I'm pretty sure the site is www.autokrafters.com if not just google it. Then download the catalog for the 70-77 maverick/comet and find the part numbers. Then on their website enter in the part numbers and buy away
