New guy here. Was intending to buy my uncles 72 Mav, but saw a 76 Grabber listed in an auction. After checking, I see the Grabber was not offered in 76, the Stallion was for only this year. Is this info correct? I have not seen the car yet, but would it be worth it (assuming it is rusted) to fix the Stallion, or go for the 72 which needs little body work?
Thanks to all the welcome emails guys.

You are correct, the Stallion was a '76 model only, with the Grabber ending in '75. If it is a real Stallion, it may be worth a serious look, as they are quite collectible these days. Beware of fakes though, and make sure the car is in a condition that you have the ability to restore. Let us know how you make out, and welcome to the board!

honestly i'd go for whatever one is in better condition but both would be the best way to go

Sam, How can you tell if a Stallion is fake. This came up in another thread on the Black & White one on eBay. Is there a code in the VIN for a Stallion, like there is for the Grabber?

    Roz,

Unlike the Grabber, there is no indication in the VIN as to whether you have an authentic Stallion. Dan Starnes is our resident expert on this subject as he maintains the Stallion registry, and he can correct me but I think the only way to tell is if you have a car with original paint, which can be difficult to substantiate if you are only going by pictures. I guess another way is if you had an original bill of sale, which I imagine would be quite rare especially if the car has changed hands over the years. These things coupled with unscrupulous sellers trying to capitalize on the growing popularity of these cars can make finding an authentic car pretty difficult.

Sam is quite correct. May I add that my original title the description only state Maverick.

I'm a half hour from Co. Bluffs. (Portsmouth)
I looked at the "Grabber", it was a fake. body wasn't that bad, but interior was shot, and originally a 6 cyl. I had a family reunion, so I missed the auction.
So I bought my uncles 72 last night!:bananaman I think I have everything I need to make it like it came from the factory. 3 speed, 302, the axle is supposed to be 3.00:1, and I'm hoping the parts car has that.
