I got a 306 i'm planning on pulling out of my 86gt and installing it in a 71 maverick. It's got a vortech t-trim on it making 18lbs of boost over 580 rwhp. How much power will it take before we go pop.
Dang! I'd love to see the graph on that. Got a pic? Re: 8" limit I do not know. But anyone putting down 580rwhp should go with a 9" (IMO). What rear do you have in your '86? What tranny do you have? Do you use a Transbrake with it? Are your header bearings forged or cast?
I have an 8.8 in the 86 with aubrun pro posi with alloy usa axles and trick flow diffs cover. welded axle tubes. I'm running a center force clutch with a wc 5 speed trans. The tranny's starting to give me issues in 5th. I broke my header bearings but my muffler bearings are pretty good . Do you guys know of anyone that has installed a centrifugal blower in a mav? I'll try to find the dyno sheet. When it was tuned.
There are a couple of centrifugal blowers on mavs, but I don't know if they are forum members, or if they just don't visit often. Do a search with my user name and find one about 6-8 months ago where I found pics of a yellow one with a great blower setup... I would also like to see your dyno sheets...I want to put a 6-71 on mine, but I took out my powersteering pump and now have a wonderful clear space just waiting to be filled...
if you are running tha tmuch power.. why ask.. just go 9" why play russian roulette? if you have to ask, then you know waht you need to do just my .02
I would cut the control arm brackets off the 8.8 and put some spring perches on that bad boy. You can get alot of different wheels with backspacing to put a good size tire on there. IIRC, its only like 2 (max) inches longer than a 8".
