I purchased a complete 3rd member 8" posi unit for my mav. it's a ford posi and it has 3.00 gears in it. I now have a 2.79 peg leg currently in the car. my questions are; 1. anything else I need to do other than just pull the axles out about 8" and drop it in?, 2. drop the drive shaft (that's a givin), 3. most important, what type of additive do I need to put in and how much after installation?

    thanks in advance!

once you get the axles and driveshaft out, just unbolt it and remove it. Replace the new one in, add a new gasket. tighten it back up. Add the gear oil(I use synthetic myself) and you should be able to find a posi additive at the local Auto Zone or Napa. Or any other auto store. Should be good to go. Try to make sure the driveshaft goes in the same way. They've been known to go out of balance.:)
