Holy smokes! Who designed this thing? Too many brackets, hoses, bolts, wires...good grief! It took a hour to get my waterpump out! Plus side is I can see where to attach the oil pressure gauge and water temp gauge now. I need to untangle and reduce the vacuum hoses because there seems to be a lot of redundant lines and unneeded hoses. But I tell ya, removing all that A/C mess was a bummer! No more. I removed ALL of it. Hoses, brackets and everything related to it. When I took off the first hose it went PSSSSSSSSTTTTT!!! I didn't cut any of it, just undid it and set it aside. My engine bay is a LOT less cluttered now.
I have serpentine belts setup from 87-93 fox body mustang and its a little cleaner....but keep your a/c stuff
PSSSST! equals "contaminating the environment with deadly poisonous CFCs!!! EVERYBODY RUN AND PANIC!!!
Hey, you found willy-nilly. I haven't seen that smiley in a while. I was looking for it for the last post but hiding under the chair was the closest I could come. He even has a little fuzzy spider chasing him. he must be Shuffling his Feet!
I want to put one in, but with a smaller compressor and in a better location. Not RIGHT ON TOP of the engine. With hoses all over the top and sides.
I have all the factory parts for mine still. I didn't cut or tear anything up when I removed it. I also have an original 1973 water pump...crazy it had never been changed. I am starting to believe my car is a legitimate 93,000 mile car.
I drained the radiator, pulled the hoses, removed the tranny lines, removed the shroud, removed the radiator, removed the fan, spacer, pulley, all the bolts for the PS pump and alternator, removd the belts, removed the bracket for the A/C compressor, disconnected the powerline and hoses from the compressor, removed a bucketful of bolts and brackets, unbolted the water pump and the filler neck and thermostat, disconnected the A/C hoses from the doodad on the firewall beside the hood hinge. Then I replaced the vacuum hose to the tranny which wasn't easy to get to and redid the vacuum lines eliminating two redundant ones and eliminating one that was plugged with a screw. It took about 2 hours in the rain.
My shroud is held in place with coat hangar wire so it takes time to remove. It's from a 78 Ranchero.
