My 76 mav has the origional A/C which is heavy and old. Should any of the existing be used besides the core in the heater box to build an efficient/economical A/C? Suggestions? I drive this gem every day, but the hot weather is hard on my girl.:)

    Replacement A/C

I have not put the factory A/C back on mine yet.
Vintage Air, a company I believe based in FL
carries replacement systems that are more
    affordable than original equipment.
I rebuilt my heater box and added a new
expansion valve that is blocked off for now.

I priced a complete system replacement
    including condensor, receiver/dryer and
    the compressor at $450-$500.
That is converting to R134. A good thing
    about their aftermarket compressors
is that they take less to hp to operate.
The guy that I talked with says that these
systems with the new compressors and
134 coolant, will freeze the family jewels off.

I will probably order mine over the winter.
They advertise in Mustangs and Fords
magazine and you can find their contact
    on the web.

    a/c upgrade??

I'm in Texas where it is 100 most of the summer. My son's comet's a/c is not real cold right now and I spoke w/a mechanic about it. The compressor is fine, just low on freon. Orig. system w/R-12. He told me that a product called freeze-12 will work great. Found some on e-bay, haven't looked at auto parts houses yet. Has anyone tried this stuff ? Does it work? Would ithelp Harold? Thanx
