Me: "So I better show you this stuff before you see it, decide I'm spending frivolously and get p!ssed."

    Her: ...

Me: (thinking, ok, the can is open, keep the worms in...)

"Yeah, so, this jigsaw... Bought it with that Harbor Freight gift certificate I got for Christmas."

    Her: "Okay"

Me: "And this thing... I ordered it like two weeks ago, it only cost about fifty bucks [-ish]. It's a hood scoop, for the Mav."

    Her: "A HOOD SCOOP?"

Me: "Yeah" (ah sh!it, here it comes. think, man, think!)

    Her: "What the hell for?"

Me: "Well... That. I really hate that"

(I point to the little dimple on the center line of my hood, from that time I closed it on a carb stud that was a bit too long. :slap: )

Her: "Isn't there something else you could do to fix that?!"

Me: "Sure, I could pound the dent out, Bondo it, sand and paint the whole hood..."

Her: "And you'd rather cut a HOLE in it?! Why?"

Me: (have to think fast... ok, what is the best way to answer this... is it, A: it will make the car faster? or B: hood scoops are awesome? I chose C:...)

(ahem,) "It will improve my gas mileage."

Her: "Oh, okay! I'm all for that!"

    Sweet. (y)

Man, you are the master! I can never think that quickly. I've found that the best bet is just to not tell her about it and surprise her in the end...(I just haven't gotten to th end quite yet!)

Good one!:thumbs2: Cant B.S. my wife like that.(she actually does listen when I go on about carburetors/heads etc...)She has learned enough through simply being near me to know what a Scoop is and what it does.
    Ignorance IS bliss I guess.

Well, she ought to know by now that if I'm "fixing" something that ain't broke, it's to make the car faster... If I hadn't popped that little dimple in the hood she'd know immediately what's up.

But, I didn't exactly lie... There are a good many things that improve gas mileage as well as power.

    WAY TO GO!!!

I am still trying to convince my wife that the air flow over fresh paint will decrease gas mileage compared to the air flow over multiple layers of paint and primer...

Well isn't that why they wax 'em down and make the bodies ultra-smooth in NASCAR?

    Sounds good to me.:)

My conversation to my wife would have gone something like this..."Honey, you're car needs a new hood scoop".

She would agree since it's for her car.:D

Hell I could do a color change on mine and she probably wouldnt notice. No interest in it at all. Bit of a bummer sometimes but maybe a good thing. The only time it bothers me is when I do something really cool that actually works out and she doesnt share my excitement. Just gives me that look like are you going to make me come and look at it. Oh well guess its that Venus and Mars thing. Thats why we have friends and forums so some other nutcase can appreciate your efforts.

Nah, she makes me drive most of the time. Anyway with 4 Mavericks and a Comet, I can't drive em all at once anyway.:)
