hey guys i havent posted for a while but luckily i have been able to work on my car finally! i do have a couple questions that i need answering and if anyone could help it would be appreciated

first question is about running dual exhaust out the back of the car. i have dual exhaust on my car but it runs up and over the leaf springs and i really want to run to all the way out the back and put some nice tips on it but since the gas tank is offset it looks really hard to run it unless its really close to the tank and im wondering if it will cause some problems with vapor lock, im just wondering if anyone has done duals like that and if they did how big of exhaust pipe you could put on it

second question, i recently put a 351w in my car and am still breaking it in but i have gotten some flak about the original driveshaft i put back into my car. they say that the minute that i put it to the floor it will snap in half since its not that big ( i will call that a compliment because it means it has some torque lol) but im also worried that it will happen and im just wondering if anyone knows how much torque the original driveshafts can handle and if i should replace my driveshaft. if i do have to replace it then i would like to know if i can buy aftermarket or another ford car has a driveshaft that would bolt right up

just let me know what ppl think!

To run pipes out the back...RE-locate the tank (there is a mustang tank swap thread/article on here somewhere) The search button will be your friend.
OR: Run the pipes over the axle, then over the spring and along the quarter to the back of the car. (should be able to get 2 1/2 dia. pipe that way. Other wise 2" to 2 1/4" is the best you can do with the stock tank location. I have what looks like 2" pipe on my 351 powered Sprint (Havent actually measured the pipes) They were on the car when I got it.
As for the drive shaft... I have the stock 200CI shaft in my Sprint with an AOD thrans and the affore mentioned 351 as well as a trac lok and 3.80s' Havent really pounded on the car but... If the shaft was going to break with street tires, I would have broken it allready...

I never seen a driveshaft "snap"...I seen them twist before. But it took a big block and sticky tire to make this happen. Any half good exhaust guy can run pipes out the back without problems with the fuel tank being in the way

I have the "small" dia. maverick driveshaft in my car...8" 355s...been hammering on it with my 347/AOD w/transbrake, Caltrax style traction bars, Detroit locker w/275x60x15s...been known to spin a wheel once in a while.
had this driveshaft behind my...C-4...AOD..full race AOD and now my LSX w/full built 700R4...got it from a Guy that was running it with his T-5.

I put a drive shaft loop in just in case the front U-joint broke. Think you're more likely to break a U-joint than a drive shaft.

Myth Busters did a program where then deliberately broke the front u-joint while the car was moving, dropped the drive shaft into a hole which folded the drive shaft, pushed it up thru the trunk floor, and raised the rear end of the car about 18" in the air.

I've had a rear u-joint break at a drag strip. No big deal. All it did was drop the drive shaft onto the track.

I've seen that mythbusters episode. I've also seen the whole rear end of a car get air under it when it broke a front u-joint and it was on the street.

From maybe 100ft, I witnessed a drive shaft twist into two almost even pieces at approx 110-115mph... Was in a '65 Comet Cyclone with a built 289, still cringe when I think about that... No it didn't get airborne but the damage under the car was massive, beat the floor pan till it was full of large dents, knocked all the console studs out(it fell over), busted three mounting ears on the T-10 4-speed and busted the bell housing...

Happened at night(yeah we were street racing & won), was enough sparks under the car to rival a good fireworks display, at first I thought the engine had blown...

We were running our stock car at Flemington Speedway in New Jersey back in 91. Running a 358 Chevy and 10 inch Hoosier slicks all around. A restart with 6 laps to go lined up third, the driver stood on it and twisted the driveshaft completely in half. The only time I ever saw one do that :hmmm:

Oh yeah. I live about 5 miles from where Trenton speedway used to be. And about five miles in the other direction is the site of the old East Windsor speedway.
