okay i have a 72 302 all stock. I think i am going to install a pertronix module in it. With the module can i feed the coil full voltage?? I know the feed has a resistor to lower the voltage. So could i just run a key hot to the coil?? Which should give a slightly hotter spark?? And then what would be a good coil to upgrade to?? To give it a better spark? I assume a newer coil would have to have some affect?? So with a pertronix, can i feed the coil full voltage? And what would be a good coil to upgrade to??

    later!! chris

Unless you are switching to a different coil higher voltage will not increase the power of the spark. It will however bun the coil up.
I don't think the module is made to take the ful;l battery volts.

I'm running the Pertronix module with an MSD Blaster coil. In between them is a Mallory HyFire VI box that sends over 400 volts to the coil. :dancing:

I swapped to pertronix. Didn't change anything else. And as far as I know, I do not have a resistor anywhere...FWIW

I run a Pertronix Ignitor ll, and an Acel SuperCoil. Works great, no resistor.

    Same here, no resistor.

Pertronix I does not need a full 12v, Pertronix II does. I ran the early version for 7 years through the resisted circuit with 8v. and it worked great.

The techs at Pertronix confirmed the above for me.

Mines a Pertronix 1 also. It's hooked directly to the coil, seemed to work fine when the engine was in the car.

I am pretty sure mine is a P-1, straight to the coil with 12 volts.

    He said that
so I would guess that "not needing" doesn't prevent it from working well with 12v:huh:

Correct, the first version can run with anywhere from 7v to 12v, you just don't need the 12v like with the II.
