I have a 74 mav with stock heads will do a diy p&p job on them. Have a hairdryer blower (paxton sn 89), and C4 tranny.

Would like a opinion on cam and rockers.

What is a good blower cam?
Are 1.7 ratio rockers gonna work? are they worth it?

Was going to do edelbrock top end kit but have talk to the pros and found out it is a waste of money. In a year or so gonna buy a dart block and forged rotating assembly and go to brodix heads hoping for 600+ ponies

Want to get the old 302 to have a pretty lopy idle and some drivability.

Street sleeper more than anything, Comes out sundays when I have time.

best to talk to the cam builders directly. You give all the specs you can on your car, and they can refer wich of their cams would work best for you.

Blower cam should have very little overlap in the valve events to keep the cylinder pressure to max usefullness.
Look at the COMP CAMS xe264 grinds in two different specs.
None of the Ford letter cams are really very good over a specialty cam, but they do say the F cam will work well with supercharging, in the FMS catalog..
Even the stock 5L HO cam is pretty good for blower use.
These are all roller cams so a flat tappet cam would have the same attributes of little or no valve over lap.
I just last evening, done photos shoot and interviewed an owner of a mid 10 second 5L Mustang from the BARTO area in Pa. using a Kenne Bell blower and looked at his cam card. Very little overlap on 15 psi boost levels plus a lot more jucy info on what makes that car so hot. No long tube headers, no special tuning etc. Simply amazing.

Cam manufacturers have done a lot of research and development on how cams work with blowers. Most of them have blower cams from mild to wild. Talking to them is the best advice you can get - short of that, pick a blower cam that gives you peak HP where you are willing to run your engine. Use the rockers that are suggested by the cam maker. The 1.7 rockers not only increase the effective lift and duration of the cam but increase the pressure from the springs on the lifter and cam lobes. Most high energy cams have aggressive ramps that are at the cutting edge of their limits when using the springs that are sold in the kit. If you add 1.7 rockers to the mix then you are adding wear on the lifters and cam lobes. Does it sound like a good idea to you? Discuss it with the cam grinder - see what he thinks.

Thanks for all the valuable information. Up here in Canada it is very cold!! The Air is very dense (awesome). I have a hard time finding information, most of the shops out here won't talk to you unless you spend $1000 first or the kid at the counter is still popping zits. You guys have answered alot and it is very appreciated. Non-related but is this rediculous? Looking for gt40 heads and can find only one set 500mi away, don't know milage of them but says 'low' ya right! They said the give them away for $750 for the pair plus shipping. I am getting discouraged my pockets aren't very deep.

Keep the stock 74 head and port "gut" the chit out of them or keep looking for gt40 heads?

    74 mav paxton sn89, .30 over,
will get 4bbl intake and blow thru carb

    can't decide on cam,heads
