Geeeze had car on jack stands for one day removing rearend for swap to other car and went out this morning (second day) and flippin code enforcement has a notice on my mailbox to move the car or make operable in 5 days! With me working that is not gonna be possible to do, but I already have the rearend out of the one car and was going to jack up the other today and start unbolting it, now I don't know what to do.
The car has been here only about a week total, and already they start this!..I live in the woods, moved here to get away from the city bunch...I guess they followed me.
Hope they don't mind noise late at night.

I was doing some work on my car (running/driving vehicle) and got a citation for working on it. I called city inspector asking why, he said steering wheel was off. What a d1ck. I guess when the guy down the street (also a gearhead) moved in and had a small trailer of some kind in his driveway he woke up to find a citation on it after not living there 24 hours. Piss on backstabbing neighbors.

That really sucks when people or towns start with that crap. That's why I keep everything inside the garages and pretty much only work on the car with the bay doors closed.

My neighbor with the bikes keeps us up now and then with the odd party through the Summer but thats OK I get even when I warm up the Mav 20 feet from his open bedroom window the next morning.:rofl2:

well i got a really "great" neighbor to the north of me. i had been working on changing the carb on my buddy's truck and had just gotten it back together and took it for a drive. we got back to my house and there were two cop cars sitting in front of my house. the cops were next door talking to my neighbors. they walk back over and tell me that my stupid neighbors had smelt gas and thought there was a gas leak so they called the cops to make sure that if there was a problem then they could help fix it. i couldn't understand how you could mix up the smell of natural gas a gasoline and we were in my drive way working on a truck. they are the bullies of the neighborhood and have called the cops on a guy that lives across and down the street from me because he was beating off ball joints at around 7 pm at night. well at least if they turn me in for having an unlicenced car in my driveway i can tell the cops they have a unlicenced truck sitting on the dirt in there back yard. they live on the corner and can see the truck from the street.

Within a couple of days of getting my first Maverick, I got a notice in the mail from our home owners association saying I had 15 days to remove the junk car. I live in a pretty decent neighborhood, so it did stick out like a sore thumb sitting in my driveway. I put insurance on the car and got a tag for it, turned it around so the tag could be seen from the street. A few days later, a cop rolls up and sits in front of my house for a few minutes. He was obviously running the tag on the car. 15 days came and went, and never heard anything else from them about it. They can't do anything around here about a car that has valid insurance and registration, no matter what condition it's in.

I can't complain about my neighbors at all. They've been very, very patient and understanding about my car hobby over the past 5 years.

When ever I'm doing something to my car that requires the wheels to be off for more then a few hours, like when I rebuilt my front suspension, I just let the car down as low as possible when I'm done for the day, and set the wheels back in the wheel wells so that it's at least not so obvious the car is apart.

Not long after getting the aforementioned citation, I unbolted the exhaust system from the headers and ran it up and down the street. No citations since! :rofl2:

Around here, if you were caught doing that, it would get you another citation.

LOL, i've had my run ins with enforcement before......... You just need to read in between the lines. One of my most favorite trick was that the vehicle had to "appear" non operatable "from the street or public sidewalk". They are not allowed to go ON your property to see if your breaking code.

Well they also really can't ask you to take the car for a spin either........... So what I'm trying to get at is a car cover, some properly placed jack stands, and placing wheels in just right spot really makes it "appear" to be operable ;)

Trust me I use to have REALLY REALLY PITA neighbors. After investigating with the neighbors it was only really just one. ONCE you figure out that neighbor trust me you would be AMAZED how many "codes" they are breaking if you pick up a rule book and sit in front of there house while they doing the lawn with a code book, notebook, camera, and a cell phone. Just remember to stay on the sidewalk :) And I bet after a brief "Discussion", you to will start to see eye to eye a little more. :)

EDIT: Call me old school but I'm a firm believer if you have a problem with me, come directly to me first. I would be glad to hear you concerns, ESP from my neighbors. I mean they are always around you and un intentionally watch for problems in the neighborhood and the community as a whole. People just need to get along.

But I live in the woods....dirt roads, and the one I think complained has TWO vehicles in their yard one on a trailer and one on the ground, but they covered up the spot where the tag should be with a hood leaned up against it...hmmmmm
It would cost me $170.00 to tag, tax and title this car and then still have to get insurance...of course they won't tell you who complained....I spoke with two of my neighbors and they were shocked I had got the notice as the car has only been here a little over a week and I was test driving it two days ago!
I need to remove the mufflers and crank it up at 7:00AM (legal time) every morning for the four days I have left, but I hate to punish the innocent parties around me.
I WILL finish what I want to do and take as long as needed...it's my property and they don't HAVE to look this way!

The closer people live together and the more of us there become the need for civility is going to increase. We can either do it on our own or end up having some kind of agency, homeowners' association, or code enforcement department start doing it. BUT---a neighbor that calls the cops before going and talking to their neighbor is a coward.
