    ...if you don't like...bold/highlighted text...don't read...

there is nothing wrong with my...Explorer disc brake setup...I am just seeing how this compares with them. so far there are pros and cons to both systems ...I will compare them at the end.

i got the ...91 Linc... brake setup from this writeup.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-1973-Fo...eb6160&vxp=mtr

I first... trimmed the axle flang ...on my '73 8" housing.
the...disc brake caliper mounting brackets... bolted right up...I like the...interference fit... it has with the axle bearing.
I'm using the ...stock Linc... rubber caliper brake hoses...
I replaced the...axle seals (9569S)...at this time also.
I used the J/Y pulled parts to do the mock up...
I have new...calipers, brake pads and rotors...for the final install.
Tim and I with Collins help think we have the...E-brake... where we can...use 95% of the stock E-brake system.
I will add to this as i progress and do a tech write up when finished...if this thread doesn't get off into left field somewhere...

    Looks good, Frank!

Do you think that caliper casting "nub" will move farther away from the leaf spring once the pads and rotor are installed? It looks close.

Is one caliper at the front, and the other in the rear? Like the Crown Vic's?

I tried to order some backing plates the other day, and Ford only sells them with the brackets...and for being the same, the prices are different from left to right..

    Looks good! :tiphat:

I wanted to ask you about mounting the RH caliper toward the back but I wanted to see what you had in mind. The bleeder is on the bottom on that side when the caliper is oriented that way. Did you have any issues bleeding the brakes on your final assembly? I am also considering this brake system when I set up my other rear end and I'm not very fond of the reverse mounting on the other side either.

haven't installed new rubber brake line yet. the plan is to...pull the caliper, put a piece of 5/8" plywood between the pads (rotor is 1/2") and let the caliper hang. this will put the bleeder to the top.
being I will only have to bleed them if I have to replace the caliper. this may only be done once in my life time.
they don't have to be bled when replacing pads...
