Sorry to start another thread on this overdone subject but I went through the achives and some of it was over my head. Anyhow I want to go from points to electronic on my 73 302 mav. From what I read Petronix is the simpler hook up. When I go to the parts store what all do I want to ask for? Am I right in assuming a few hundred will do me? Do I need a new coil? If so what should I get? Any help you can give me would be appriciated,
Just tell them what year/engine you have. The ones for SBF's cover about 20 years. You can buy them mail order for around $65. Your coil has to have a minimum of 1.5 ohms of resistance. I used to run an MSD Blaster coil with mine. Now I use it to trigger a Mallory Hyfire VI A box.
I put one on the `65 T-Bird I had three years ago,I recently bought it baxk from the guy I traded it too 3 years ago and guess what,the Pertronix is still on it and working perfect,and the guy drove the thing as a daily driver for those 3 years too.Go with the Pertronix!
