I'm not an old pro stock racer, I'm just old. What part of California are you from. I have a friend here that moved from California a few years ago. He worked on them in the 60's and 70's. He builds cars here. Name is Brian Smith.
Thanks Guys SOHC Maverick We sold the car without engine and trans to Tom Dayton of Livermore Calif in 1989 he in turn sold it to someone els. We sold it due to running the A/FX Mustang and the Maverick was out dated. Now that this nostalgia deal is going strong and the old pro stockers are coming back I been searching to find the car. I have yet to find where its at now like to get it and restore it and run it at those events I remember the the Fremont west coast nationals with my dads close friend Ed Terry and his maverick Dyno Don the good old days of the 427 SOHC. Our family member Art Himsel did a state of the art paint job for its time beautiful car
No, but I do have Bob Johnson's old deck lid and wing on mine How you doing, Jim? Good to see you on the board.
Hello I am doing fine searching for our old P/S Maverick now that this nostalgia deal is going strong so far no trace of it. How is that wing and deck lid working out for you? nice to see you on this board. Have you ran your Maverick?
Yes I have run it quite a bit this year. Haven't done a lot of good with it, but I'm not in it for the money--just for the fun. The car works great. The local track went to 1/8 mile so the wing isn't quite as effective as it was when we ran 1000' but at least it looks cool.
mavman Up-date on P/S Maverick search I got in contact with Tom Dayton the one we sold it to he sold it to a guy he kept it for a while than sold it another person. Tom said last he herd it still in Seattle Washington and sitting out in a feild for 2 years with grass growing into it. Thats sad news Art Himsel $10,000 paint job back in 1970 now wuold cost you well over $20K it also has the special Dana rear end. I am waiting word back from Tom on his contact with the first buyer that knows the other one
I wonder how many Mavericks were sold thanks to Dyno Don Nicholson and the rest of the folks who campaigned SOHC and Boss 429 Pro Stock Mavericks? Count me as one of them. I bought my first car, a Maverick Grabber, because Dyno Don was my hero. Oh, how I miss those days of Pro Stock!
Great looking cars. I love nostalgia racing. I went to a muscle car show today in Kingsport, Tn. A bunch of BOSS 429 and BOSS 302's. lots of Mopars and chevys. I saw 70 Shelby GT 350 with a Boss 302 engine. I didn't know there was ever one made but they had documentation.
We have a little 1/8 mile that is still open after all these years, and I saw a match race there for P/Stocks in about '73 and "Fast Eddie Shartman"was there,(he's not too far from here),and back then ,they did Rosin burnouts instead of water, and his SOHC Maverick would turn some hellasious RPM and he would almost trip the lights just doing his burnout!Thats what made me love these cars way back then! And he won the event that night.
