has anybody ever modified the motor mounts or the brackets???? mavericks are noitorious for there engine vibrations in the car ive owned 4 and theyve all done it , its annoying ...somebody should design one
Have you ever run a lumpy cam in one of these cars? They are so small that they 'dance' all over to the rhythm of the lope. Gotta love it! If these cars don't suit high-brow tastes, one always can buy a Lexus. uke: Dave
I've "jury rigged" a few Mav mounts. I just used a later style (I believe it was a Grand Marquis, about 84-ish) mounts, and drilled a 1/2" hole all the way through the shock tower and bolted it with spacers. The other car I did the same thing, but drilled out the holes to 5/8" and welded the proper length spacers into the towers. Both work well....and looks like they lower the engine slightly (better center of gravity). No vibration problems that I know of...except a out-of-balance 302 that was in the turbo mav. Didn't believe in balancing back then. Swear by it now! Broke a 351w crank last year and after talking to a machinest, he was telling me that a cast crank WILL break if the motor vibrates any at all...and broke it did. Couldn't tell if the crank broke first or the main webs, either way, it became a resident of the scrap iron yard.
Mine used to vibrate . It turned out to be 2 bent wheels , 1 bad tire (steel belt broke and made a buble) , 1 bad U joint and the engin was only running on 5 out of 6 because I forgot to hook up a plug wire .
i think my driveshaft is vibrating a little...when i am at freeway speed....you know, right around 80-90 mph (drive it like you stole it) i hear a vibration........but when i am at slow speeds 55 or lower.....i cant hear it.......u joints are good....maybe the rims are out of balance...??
Like Don, mine never vibrates, even @7200 rpm,s. I have never noticed a vibration on any Mav I have been in, smooth as todays cars. Dan
Tom,,, pretty funny. Only those who payed attention to that thread will figure out what you just did. Dan still laughing
