the biggest concern about putting a sump on a gas tank is the welding on a tank that has any gas vapor left in it. it can explode.
the best thing to do is to get a new tank that has never had gas in it and put the sump on that.
in my experience a sumped gas tank doesnt work well with fuel injection. what happens is when when you turn the fuel will slosh to the sides of the tank and the fuel pump will suck air and cause the motor to shut off. it is very annoying.

most people will drill several large holes in the floor of the tank where the sump covers to act as baffels but this only helps in straight line acceleration.

i have not done this yet but i plan on cutting an I in the floor of the tank and folding the sides up at about 45 degree angles to capture the fuel as it flows side to side in turns. i have not done or tested this method yet but i expect it to work allot better than just holes.
