Can someone give me more information on what crossmember they are using for thier AOD swaps? Can you modify your existing crossmember? how far back?

Anybody got any pics of thier crossmember setup?

I'm getting ready to put my engine and tranny into the car, and I want an idea of what I'll be up against. I have a welder and the facility to make another one, but I want to know what otheres have done. I've done this swap for 65 and 67 mustang before and just created a new crossmember. But this will be the first time doing it to a Maverick.

Any ideas and pics will be be much appreciated...

Make one. I used some 1 inch 1/4 thick tubing to fill the gap in my factory crossmember and bolted it behind the original crossmember location with a long grade 8 bolt for a quick fix. Works fine, but won't hold much power that way. I will be making one this time around as I couldn't weld then, I can now.

I wish I could find that old pic I had of a different style crossmember, easy to make with a few pieces of angle.

So your saying that the height is okay, the AOD mounting point is just about 1 inch further back then the standard auto is?

    Thanks...

yep, if it isn't exact, its really close. Worked out fine, I put around 20k miles on it before I parked it to fix rust.

The only issues I had were general weak AOD problems. Low stall speed, slow shift points... never had to replace the UV joints...
