How do you feel about the body work to enlarge the tunnel to fit the larger housing?

Actually our lustrousis president, Shawn is running a Lenteck AOD and I dont believe he had to modify the tunnel at all. Unless you have a 70 which does have a smaller tunnel. Contact him to find out.

Thanks guys, I'll look into it. By the way, will a later AOD take much abuse?

You don't have to modify the tunnel to make an AOD fit. You do however, have to fabricate a crossmember. I'm currently doing this swap on my '72. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I am thinking about it for my 69.5, but I know it will be a butt load of work...err, bonding with my Mav.

I have one from an 85 crown vic. It needs a rebuild, so it will be a while. I am in the process of researching it, and collecting parts. I will let you know,

Earl, you should use a later model like from a Lincoln Mark 7 after 1988. The tail shaft housing is about 1/2" longer than say a Mustang.
They are set up with more clutches and in generalbuilt a bit beefier.
Do the 2 inch wide OD band change while you at it as well as the ' A' servo change and the Baumann shift kit if you intend to beat on it a bit hard.
Your 85 may have an OD accumulator that was eliminated in later years in favor of longer OD band life.
I run my 90 with the shift kit and 'A' servo behind a Kenne Bell blower in a 4000 lb car with no problems, for the last year.

Whatever the outcome here, it should be a sticky for all to learn. This modification is one of the things that will be most sought after now, and in years to come. Somebody please document what they are doing with this. I am planning on doing this, and will be glad to document, but am a couple years from that stage of the project.

Dennis don't worry. The world will remain homeostatic. I plan for a t-5 in the future.

If you really want to upgrade....

Get an AODE and buy the programming setup from Baumann. You can program your tranny's shift points, pressure, etc., with a laptop.
