how hard would it be to put an aod into a maverick and what would i need does it matter what car it comes out of
I Know!!! I Know!!! Mine bolted right in...'84 F 150...no changes to driveshaft ... stock Mav. floorshift.(aftermarket cable shifters works well also). 71gold, makes an ...AOD crossmember... P.M him for info. ...Frank...:Handshake
Mine bolted right in, it came out of a 93 E150, we had to change the tail shaft so we could hook up the speedo, and I bought a crossmeber for the guy above, and it was sweet!!!
Also keep in mind that the AOD uses a throttle valve to control line pressure. You will need a kit to install a cable from the carb to the AOD and you will need to adjust it properly. If it is not properly adjusted you can either have no shifting at all or a burned up transmission in as little as a week. The AOD is used in many cars and trucks use a truck transmission if you want it to hold up at all. Most of the AODs are not very strong as they come from the factory. They are expensive to have rebuilt and even more expensive to build up for performance. Anytime you swap to an AOD from a C4 add an auxillary cooler. You will also need type H (Mercon / Dexron III) transmission fluid. This stuff is usually harder to find than typr F but F will NOT work in the AOD. Mercon V can be used if you have it rebuilt using carbon type friction materials. Mercon V is more expensive but it is a synthetic oil that will extend the life of the oil in a properly prepared AOD.
"You will also need type H (Mercon / Dexron III) transmission fluid. This stuff is usually harder to find than typr F." I get it at ...Advance auto Parts... seems to be one on every corner... Frank... (ILMAOD)
