Hey guys I need to know if I need the heat shield on my car.
I am talking about the one under the carb. I have a '77 250.
It's all stock, has a good fan shroud,160 degree thermostat,
and recored radiator. I don't drive it when it's real cold hence the cool
thermostat, but it does get hot in Oklahoma and I hope to get
my A/C working. So given this do you recomend using the shield?
My studs arent long enough for the shield and it's requred gasket,
so if I need it I will have to go get new studs.
    Thanks
    Cary

Invest in the longer studs. The heat shield keeps the fuel in the carb from boiling after it has been run and the engine is warm and off.

As PaulS said. This is very important on a 200 or 250 6cyl. In a cold climate you`d get away without it. Where you are,in the summer,no. It`s especially important in stop and go traffic in the city. It`s most important when you park for a few minutes and go to restart your car. Believe us,you absolutely need this and the longer studs are cheap!(y)
