I instaled a B&M star shifter last years to convert from steering column shift and I don't plug the safety switch and back light switch cause winter knock at my door to soon. So does any body can help me found this wire. How to get it, where to make connection anything that can be usefull cause I'm gonna do it this week end but don't even know the wire color. Thanks David
if memory serves me correctly, the neutrel safety switch mounts on the shifter. as far as what wire to use....not sure. I just tapped into my wire on my silenoid and ran it through the neutrel safety switch.
neutral safety switch? lol! i never put one on my B&M... when i go though tech at the drag strip, i just move my shifter collum which is still active to neutral... then show the tech guy it don't start! shhhhhh!
I ran without mine for a while. Until............. I did your normal pulling into the staging lanes, big cam, small block high compression motor just a popping, people turning to see what was coming, killed the motor and coasted up in line. Well, yeah you guest it. When time came to get her heated up before time run, jumped in it, pushed the start button and I almost hit the fellow on front of me. Now luckily there was no spectator walking by my car at that moment or I might have hit them, needless to say, the very next day (Sunday) the safety switch was in and I had no worries after that.
I used to had a column shifter so where is the neutral safety switch??? In column near ignition switch?? and where is the backup light switch in column too????
N/S switch should be on the trans, down by the manual shift arm. Has a pigtail that plugs into a blue and red and a black wire. It should work no matter where the shifter is. I put one on from a '75 Comet, and it works great, no mods. Let us know.
Safety, safety, safety, congrats on looking out for fellow racers and spectators. Guess a lot of people would not care, but to accidentley ruin someone's life or expensive equiptment, not to mention having to live with the thought the rest of your life, is just not a real racers, thing to do in my book. A simple micro switch, normally closed in nuetral position wired into the start side of the ign. is not that hard to do. Our track is really hard on violaters of this rule, and I bet NHRA is worse.
Thanks earl I already bought this type of safety switch but the b&m bracket take place where its supose to go and the starshifter got two micro switch for safety and backup light. So I'll take 4 wire from microswitch to go plug where the original backup and safety switch is but I don't know where it is I suposed in steering column but I just want someone to confirm this
maverick man, you wouldn't get away with that at my track. i put a new shifter in and hooked up the n/s switch. went to the track and drove to tech. car tried to start in drive. went back to the pits and fixed it. just needed an adjustment. had to go through tech again. i thanked them for doing a good job. if i hadn't known about it and tried to start it in drive in the staging lanes, i might have hit another car or person.
