A better question would be..." What amp hour rating battery should I get "
Why??? Because if your alternator dies on a road trip...You want a battery that will sustain your cars electrical system for about an hour so you can get to a safe location to affect repairs. Of course this means knowing how much amperage your cars electrical system needs to operate properly at any given time.
Anything in the 650 CCA range is about average for a small V8 car with minimal electric operated accessories (generally speaking)
Now if you drag race this car on a regular basis you should consider a deep cycle glass mat/gel cell type battery since they stand up to the shock loads better than std batteries and can tolerate a system where a charging system is non existant or turned off on the car for the purpose of making more power. Sorry not much help am I.

Actually you answered my question just the way i hoped! I have no idea how old the battery in my car is but recently it has struggled to start the car. Yesterday it would'nt start it but it had enough to power the lights. I'll pull it and have it checked and be prepared to buy a new one! Thanks!!!!

Just my :2cents: , get the largest ampere one you can get in the size for your car. It will last longer and be more reliable. And in the event you ever sell your car ( God forbid ), you can keep it to use in something else! :D

I agree get the biggest bad boy you can. Only buy cheapo 12v batteries if you want some more juice for your lawn tractor :D

Also depends on your budget. I put a glass mat in mine but your talking 200 plus retail for my batt.

Big reason for me was I dont want any acid issues so I went for the glass mat. They are a sealed battery.( under normal conditions ) They also take more abuse and longer storage periods.

I'm with simple man. I always use the largest (highest amp) I can fit in my car. The puny ones that the factory specifies are just taking up space on my garage floor.
