mine was making a loud noise and i found this...

note...there is a bolt that holds it together and then you ...twist the box...to get it off the two flat headed studs, in a slot, that hold the box in.
don't pry on the box or it will ...bust... :yup:

    ...don't ask how i know...

Man, that is a HORRIBLE job...

I ended up taking out most of the dash just to make it easier. Leave the top part of the dash, but take off the part with the glove box. Might want to remove the front seat if possible. It really makes getting at it easier. Seriously...

And, that box is old and some kind of plastic/fiberglass/cardboard material, and will break if you look at it crosseyed. Maybe even if you look at it with both eyes...

Also, if you are this far into it, like I was, I swapped out the accordian vent hoses with new ones (cheap from O'Reilly), and replaced ALL the vacuum lines underneath the dash.

I figured halfway through the job that I DON'T EVER WANT TO BE WORKING THERE AGAIN!!! and fixed all of that stuff then...

Like Frank said.....no need to remove the entire heater box. The fan is located just above the transmission hump and it cam be removed seperately from the heater box.

I used the opportunity to fix everything under there BEFORE it broke. I also found it difficult to work on in the car, and taking it all out in order was more time consuming, but I only broke one thing...

Mike (MAV) has 3-4 parts cars. i either go over there or the junk yard and pulll some stuff first...(y)that way i know how it comes apart. Mike has a lot of parts stored in his parts cars. most of the time he has the part out and i can see how it was bolted up. :thumbs2:
with this being said...maybe some one could post a pic. of the box out and one of where it was mounted...:yup:

    MFF...:Handshake

So i yanked the whole assembly out of the parts car today, got it out in about an hour, and it wasnt all that bad. But i didnt need to save stuff like the hoses, and remember where the vacuum hoses went. heres some pics of what it looks like outta the car.:dancing: Sorry about the bad camera, i'll try to get a better one for when i do the one on my car.

    pics are as follows
    1)passenger side
    2)Driver side, the motor side.
3)this side is the side that gets bolted to the firewall.
    4)Bottom (with air duct)
5)This is the side that faces you.
