I am on the hunt for my first maverick and was wondering about body conversions. I, like most people I assume, am partial to the look of the 70-72 when comes to the Mavericks. But from the looks of it, they are getting hard to find and it is much easier to find later cars with the square bumpers. Can the later cars easily be converted the to the early look. It looks like the hoods are different and obviously the bumpers but are there any other differences that aren’t readily obvious like the fenders, quarters, or the tail light panel. I’m pretty sure the tail light panel is different but I can’t really tell by the pictures I am looking at. Education please.
if you do a search for the small bumper conversion you will find all you need to know about it. Fairly easy to do. Just need to acquire the parts. Small notch in later fenders. The grabber hood with the scoops was only available in 71 and 72. All other hoods are the same as are the body panels. Differences are in the vinyl roofs and side chrome. There are other differences like the 70 tranny tunnels are smaller, Gas tanks change over the years, Interior differences. Back panels are the same. The first year the taillights were a tad different in size, but you'd have to look hard to find it. I'm sure others will jump in with more. Good luck.
