OK, Mav purists don't have a heart attack - this is just a poll of a design I came up with on my computer and no actual Maverics or Comets have gone under the knife. For the rest of you - I was thinking about how all these body kits and such were out there for Mustangs, etc. Also, when one of these upgrade companies puts out a "New" version of the Mustang, it gets it's own name and so forth. So, I had an idea that would change the looks of a Maverick/Comet by making it look sleeker and more streamlined. Right now I'm just working with the back quarter panel. I didn't put a spoiler on the new look yet, but I would like it to be a duck-tail. Of course at this stage it could be any type. So why did I start this? Well, I have an 06 Mustang GT which gets a lot of looks and stares. So does my Maverick, but that's mostly because it is a rareity and sounds like a GT500 when I drive up. The first thing I came up with was to run the roof line straight back from the roof to the back of the car. This concept is not new and has been used on lots of cars since the 60s. Call this "Mod 1" on the "new" Maverick/Comet". Also, it needs a no-nosense name so when you park next to that Shelby, people look a your car because it is a work of art and says so. Names just for starters - BOSS Maverick/Comet, Maverick 5.0 - Comet 5.0.,Maverick GTH, GTK, ......KT? Scorpion? By the way, I actually intend on doing the mods on my car so there will be a real car to vote on. The computerized before and after pics can be seen in this same posting in the parts interchange thread. The photo here is an after shot. Why am I doing this? Because I feel that with the right modifications (and a sensible budget) a Maverick/Comet would out perform a GT500 or Shelby. The Mavs and Comets have a better cornering potential, better distribution of weight, and being lighter they would easily produce a higher HP to weight ratio under several conditions. Like I have said before, these cars are a great platform to work with. Right now it is freezing cold and snowing - the drag strip won't be open until at least March or April. By then the Maverick's engine and drivetrain should be ready to go up against my 06 Mustang GT. It's a full second faster than other stock GTs. The Mav should be about another second or so faster than the GT. Depends on whether or not there are any traction problems to sort out. Anyhow, let me know what you think about Mod1 - remember, my goal is to have a sleek, fast car that looks good - but retains the soul of the Mav/Comet.
definetly AMX/Javelin"ish" also reminds me on another AMC that not too many people rememeber... The AMC Marlin
This is what I thought of just need the sidepipes and the hood scoop on the mav. But then again the AMX is probably on my top ten lists of favorite cars
well. deffinately has the looks of a AMX like said before but my first impression was a 1972 maverick Mach 1. and i just might go to the scrap yard tomorow and see what they want for my buddies old maverick.
Needs 3 things to be perfect. 1:Cragars 2:Comet base instead of Maverick for the hood lines. 3:sidepipes The duck spoiler is cool but I think a wing would be cooler.
Funny the AMX should be mentioned. I am in a quandary over whether I should by the nice 1976 351W/Auto Mav I found, or the nice 1969 343/4 speed AMX I found. It's too nasty right now to drive either of them and I suspect the test-drive will make the decision for me. Decisions, decisions, decisions...................
Buy the AMX, I know we are maverick and comet people here. But we are also car nuts and how often do you run across a 4 speed AMX. You can buy a 351w mav. or better yet build one.
Thanks. I will add that I have been an AMX fan longer than a Maverick fan. To make this even better, the AMX is claimed to have no chassis rust and is a driving all original numbers car having the coveted Go-Pack. The engine and T10 trans were re-built 10,000 miles ago and it's only had 1 OEM matching Forest Green paint job during it's life. Seems like a pretty good find for an old gearhead like me. But, as I said, I'll know a lot more when I see and drive it.
