You need to get a test light and do some troubleshooting. Its money well spent. If your turn signals work OK, then everything from the column out is OK. The power comes from the battery, loops through the light switch, to the brake switch, and up to the column, to the turnsignal switch. Get a test light and see if you have 12 volts on one side of the brake switch. If you dont, the problem is either the light switch, or the wiring from the light switch to the brake switch. If you have power to one side of the brake switch, press the brakes and see if it switches to the other side. If it dont, the switch is defective. If it does, the problem is in the wiring to the column and turn signal switch or the turnsignal switch itself. This is all assuming all the other lights on the car work correctly. A good wiring diagram and a test light will work wonders.
