you know that annoying buzz that happens when you put the key in with the door open...

how do i stop that from happening, i know its there so i don't lock my keys in the car, but it drives me nuts, so i just want to disable it.

im guessin this is easy i just dont know how

on a seperate note, will my chiltons manual give me all the info on how to remove all of the smog equipment, ive searched over the forum, but cant find a how to remove all the smog stuff

i'd check the chiltons manual to see what else is on the fuse with the door alarm. like you said it's probably simple. the chiltons manual won't tell you how to take the smog stuff off. at best it will identify it so you can take it off yourself.:)

The buzzer is up under the dash. You should be able to just listen to where the noise is coming from to find it, and unplug it. That said, you are going to be kicking yourself the first time you lock your keys in the car, ask me how I know. :)

How much smog stuff can a '70 Maverick have?

thats not smog stuff. that is the fume can from the gas tank. 70 did not have smog "stuff". the door buzzer plugs in under the dash. mine was behind the radio.

That buzzer is attached to the interior lights that come on when the door is opened and closed. Mine messed up and was sucking power all the time killing my battery overnight, so I cut the wire and removed the buzzer. No problems since.

It is way up under and behind the glove box, and is kinda hard to get to.

I always thought it was insane how they made those little buzzers last so long. The one in my 1972 Maverick was located just behind the lip of the metal part of the dash, in about the same location that a normal car (we al know Mavericks aren't normal) would have a glove compartment. anyway listen for it, it is a tricky sound to trace because it is basically a vibration and it sounds like it is coming from everywhere when you put your head under the dash but I did eventually find mine and unplugged it.

My car battery is losing power overnight. My buzzer is especially annoying because it wouldn't work for a while then when I shut the back door or close the hood, buzzzzzzzzzzzzz, it would then go on. From a loose wire I suppose, then it wouldn't work for a while. I'm looking to remove the buzzer also. Would I have to remove the dash or what? And can I see it if I look up from the floorboard?

Well I've got a radio. And it doesn't sound like it coming from there but I'll check. It sounds like it's coming from right behind the glovebox. But I don't know how to get all the stuff out of the way without having to take the dash down. And all the ac vents are in the way, so I can't see up in there. There is a small black round thing though that I can see from the floorboard, with a black wire or hose coming from the bottom, but I don't think that's it. It's right at the edge of the dash at the bottom.
