I have a C4 Pan fill tranny. I have put 40,000 miles on this transmission and have never adjusted the bands. Fluid level is exactly in cross hatch with tranny under normal operation temperature. Type F transmission fluid used and new filter installed less than 300 miles ago. Never had any issue with trans before fluid/filter change other than trans not going into 1st gear every time I made a complete stop. At times I would start off in 2nd gear at the choice of the transmission....not because I shifted it into 2nd. When doing the filter change I had a small ball come outta the valve body/trans case......NO SPRING !! I put the ball back in and buttoned it all back up. Thinking there should have been some sort of spring. Had the drain pan within 3" of the filter when dropped so I'm pretty sure if there was a spring that it wud have been in the pan with the steel ball. Now my reverse works as it should and goes immediately into reverse. I shift to Drive and it takes 15 seconds or so before it goes into gear. Was working okay for about 100 miles before I noticed it was taking longer and longer to get into gear. NOW I'm having major slippage issues in 1st gear and it feels like a longer than normal C4 "flare" from 2nd to 3rd. Sometimes it is slipping a lot from 1st all the way to 3rd and then sometimes it slips from 1st to 2nd and the 2nd to 3rd is perfectly fine. As the transmission gets hotter the slippage becomes worse. But not always !! Any ideas guys/gals ???
