Our wonderful new Gov. has been talking about changing our emission laws to mirror those of the state of California. Right now our Mavericks are old enough not to have to go through emission testing, so we can add any performance part we choose. I see some pretty cool engines in some of you Calif. guy's cars, so I'm thinking you must have an age limit on testing too. If so, what years are exempt? I could be getting worried over something that will never happen, but whenever a politician says they're going to do something to help us, I automatically bend over and assume the worst.
It was rolling 30yrs so 76 cars fell off this year but they just changed that to 74 and older as of April 1st.
thats why i bought a 73 and putting all my seats and all the other goodies in it out of my 77, darn laws thats ok now i can have a v8 sooner than later the 73 allready goning for paint monday then geting a new 5.0 and flowmasters in a few months i will have some parts for sale so let me know what you need
Thanks guys, since mine is a 69.5 I should be OK as long as the Gov. doesnt try to prove we're more righteous than California and make us test all the way back to 68, when the Federal Clean Air Act was signed into law.
Even though the '74 and older stuff will not have to go through the bi-annual smog checks here in California, you still have to go through a test on change of ownership don't you? So if you buy a car that gets checked the first time you register it you must smog it. The year used to be 1955 and newer as that was the first year of California emmission standards (PCV). They just check for gross poluters (smoke, miss firing) and that the PCV is working. Then '66 is when the smog pumps became required (in Cal.)
They're talking about that here in MD too. A bunch of stupid enviromentalist. And I"m being polite. Hopefully I'll be gone before they ever pass it.
you sure its not 75 cuz the 75 i just bought i didn't have to smog it.. it was due this april.. i'm almost sure its 76 and up you will need to smog and 75 and below your ok. )btw tom you comming to knotts? you never e-mailed me back PM me please) for change of onwership only if the car is NOT exempt you will need to smog it. either way california has ways around it. if your car is 25 years or older you can register it as a Historical Vechicle. this way you do not have to smog it! this is what my dad did to his 1967 pontiac when the smog stoped at 1965 cars and older. the only thing is if you do register it that way your only supposed to drive it to and from events.. as far as what they say an event it.. its very vauge! you can get away with it.
You guys need to get SEMA action committe involved. They lobby states to treat the car hobbyist fairly. Go to: http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?ID=/content/SEMASANcom/HomePage I'm a member and get the info out to as many peopel as I can so we can get bad laws stopped.
ok thats what i thought.. its 76 and up that needs to be smoged! don't scare me like that guys!!! i had a turbo planed for this thing here are offical smog laws for california... just what to expect for all you other guys in those other states that don't have one. welcome you our world! http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/StdPage.asp?Body=/Smogcheck/doineed.htm
Here is my original post with the SEMA info. URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT Legislation to Repeal Old Car Emissions Exemption Reintroduced in California State Assembly Here we go again! As predicted, legislation has been reintroduced in the California Assembly to repeal the state's current rolling emissions test exemption for vehicles 30 years old and older. A.B. 2683 repeals the current pro-hobbyist exemption and replaces it with a provision requiring the permanent testing of all pre-1976 vehicles. This year, the bill was introduced by California State Assemblywoman Sally Lieber (D-District 22).
BEWARE in CA Just because 66-74 vehicles in CA (or 75 now without rolling 30 year exemption?) do not have to have a smog inspection, the cars are technically still required to have all equipment in place and functioning. Other than 55-65 PCV requirements, only 65 and older CA cars are truely "smog exempt". If you read the fine print, 66-74 is INSPECTION EXEMPT ONLY! The powers to be could require renewed testing very easily on these cars, and trap everyone that has modified them and failed to keep the old equipment for reinstallation at testing time. Here in the capital, they are just now ramping up the "mobile remote" systems (butt sniffers). A mobile station (van) can monitor your car as you drive by, and sent a notice by mail to go in for a test.
exacty however the key is the biggest trouble is the inspection! mobile sniffers have always been around since the early 90's in so cal seen them drove by them... red dodge ram with a white trailer! they are always in the same place. on ramps, busy streets etc. you can drive by and shut down and coast by.. been there done that... you learn to live with those types of things. just don't drive by there any more. besides most cars that are modifed that much aren't on the road everyday. you could almost anything aftermarket you put on your car that doesn't come from the factory, is practically illegal with some exceptions. but clip on mirrors, tinted windows, those wanna be HID lights, i can go on and on... even if its got a C.A.R.B. tag on it doesn't mean it will pass a sniffer. i say if you live in fear you'l have no fun and just be glad you don't have to take the car in. if your still worried registar it as a historical vechicle.
Oooops your right 75 and older and so far I haven't had to smog them when I've changed ownership I did have to do the mustang once back before the rolling 30 yrs. Yes, you should have the smog stuff all the time at least Derrick should have it all the time on his car as long as you don't bellow white or black exhuast you should be OK Here's a little story about smog my 77 truck bearly failed with edelbrock manifold, holley 600 vaccum sec, headers, edelbrock performer cam, and all the smog stuff. I put all the stock stuff back on exept for the headers and cam and now it's a gross polluter
