can i use 77 seatbelts in a 70 ?

    hay guy's i found a 77 comet that has a nice set of retractable seat belts. i was wondering if i could use them in my 70 with out having to drill or modify anything. i would appreciate any help thanks.

    David; don't think so. The later cars had a hold cut in the rocker panel and the reinforcements and mounts for the retractors. I wouldn't cut the rockers, it may weaken them in that place, and it is a critical area. See if you can find some retractable ones from a 69.5-72 car. They will go right in. Hope this helps.

    the ones i seen in the 77 comet looked self contained... they had black plastic housings for the retractors.....

    As Earl said, they are totally different. There is actually 2 big holes in the rocker along with a recessed area. You could do it but you would need to cut out the section of the rocker that the assembly bolts to, and graft it in yours. Also because you have a 70, the rear seat is different. The wider seatbelt assembly would require the rear side panels to be used to blend in the interior panels. Since you have to use the 77 panels to look right, you'd have to use the 77 rear seat.
