Hi, any of you good people out there know whether a six cylinder 250 cu in Maverick can pull a house trailer, and how big? Naturally I'd have to have a hitch installed.

I really don't know much about this. Thanks in advance for your replies.

    I doubt they'd pull much.

I wouldn't tow more than a small utility trailer. Two of the Mavs I've owned over the years have had hitches on them. Still have them if you are interested in one.

They have no frame and really can't pull something larger than maybe 600-800lbs for any distance... You'd need trailer brakes on anything heavier than 500lbs...If you tried to stop quickly with something like a house trailer, you'd no doubt be under the trailer..

I once towed a U-Cart with a yard of concrete behind a '67 Falcon SW that I'd swapped a 351 and it pulled just fine, stopping was another story...

I had no problem pulling an old 1962 Owens 17' fiberglass boat all through the N. GA mountain's with my '60 Falcon when it had a 170 six cyl with the tiny 2.77 3-speed transmission and with a 3.10:1 6-3/4" rear end. Just had to down shift to help slow down when I had to stop or go down the hills. I had a frame mounted trailer hitch and not one that bolts to the bumper. A '75 Maverick is more car than a '60 Falcon.

that old six will pull just about anything just depends on how fast you want to pull it.

the old 6 wont get you up to 50mph in like 50 feet like a big ol v8 will but it will take a 12-14 foot cap trailer anywhere up or down hill as long as your cooling system and trans are in good shape.

stopping the car and trailer is going to be the challenge put trailer brakes on and have them do most of the work and youll be okay oh almost forgot youll need to beef up your shocks and may have to add more springs to your leaf springs.

I would say take it to a place that installs hitches on trucks and see what they reccomend

I would think you would have to have one of those really old trailers that are almost scraping the ground theyre so low. the one from back in the day when every station wagon in town was towing a camp trailer

myself I wouldnt tow anything more than a little pop up tent trailer with a mav or comet. that would have to be my house before I would ever consider putting a hitch on my car.

I think I'd be more comfortable with a Maverick ON a trailer instead of IN FRONT of a trailer. Just my opinion. How rust-free is the rear sub-frame of your car???

I would compared the towing capabilities to a 4 cyl Ranger truck....if you could get a strong hitch mounted properly. Maybe a small utility trailer, john boat or jet ski.

Most big ole V8s won't come close to 50mph in 50ft even without a trailer, you'd have to be talking full on dragrace vehicle...

The small teardrop type of camping trailer or light boat is about the limit I would consider towing with a Maverick.

Keep the tongue weight down, consider adding a transmission cooler. Check your tires to that they have a higher than minimum load rating for a Maverick.
Trailer brakes are a must (surge or electric).
