I have a 250 with a 1bbl stock carb... I just got a remanufacured carb and bolted it on.. I screwed up and started messing with the screws trying to tweak it, and needless to say, now it wont idle. I am confused, there are 3 screws. one on either side of the carburetor, (pointing more of less toward eachother), and another one pointing downward.

can anyone help me get this thing to some sort of default values? thanks!

the twopointing at each other are for idle (the one on the passenger side) fast idle for the choke (the one on the driver side) and the one pointing down is for mixture. if it were me, i'd first unscrew the one on the passenger side until the throttle is all the way closed. the screw sould (at this point) not be touching its uhhh base. then screw it in until you see the throttle butterfly move a little. (you have to look down into the carb to see this.) fire it up and if need be keep your foot on it until it warms up.if it won't idle unscrew the one pointing down (mixture) about a turn. see if it idles. if not screw IN the idle screw another half turn or so. hopefully it will idle now. maybe a lil fast maybe not. if it runs, screw the dile screw out until the engine stops increasing in speed. then open it up another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. not you can adjust the idle screw until you get it to idle at the speed you want. i don't know if this is the right way to go about it but it sure worked for me. if you have to get it through emmissions, what worked for me was to run the car almost completely out of gas, leaving about a gallon or less. go buy a gallon of CHEAP regular. before you dump it in the tank put in 3 or 4 bottles of "drygas" then off to inspection! the regular burns off quickly and the drygas just lowers the ratio of gas in the exhaust. again... don't know if this is right but it sure worked for me!

the one pointing down (mixture)turn it in all the way don't crank it down just till it stops then back it out 2 1/2 turns that should get it close to run

I will give it a try

its weird, the car will only start if I'm holding in the gas, and it shuts off immediately if I let off the gas.. It seems like the two screws on the same side (idle and mixture I guess) have no effect, but when I turn the one on the drivers side, it either idles extreeeemely high or it clunks really low.. When its really low it runs kinda ok until I step on the gas a few times, then when I let off the gas pedal it starts idling super high

well right now the chock is trying to work when its cold . fast idle .makes it hard to adjust need to let it warm up ..the one for the idle you should see it move the throttle linkage turn it till the throttle plates just open
