http://www.autozone.com/powertrain/engine/surefire-engine/890053_846125_11266/ I found this engine on the autozone site. Its a 1975 model engine. It says its not a correct fit for the 1973. can someone tell me why and what the difference is?
There were some slight differences in how the accessories bolted on....most notably the alternator bracket. In referring to your other thread, I would do some testing on your motor before I would plunk down $1500 for a rebuilt 6 cyl motor.
So the only difference is i might need to get new brackets to mount the alternator? And ill probably have someone check it out like you said. I hope its nothing as serious as i think though. Im just not sure what else could cause all of those problems
Even if your engine had a cracked head there are those people here that would sell you a head so you could rebuild your engine . You will find that the people here will usually bend over backwards to help someone else out. This is why we are trying to save you money and give you advise as if it was our money.
The head may also be different.....being a smog head versus 1973 which did not have smog. You can find a good used motor for $200 I would say.
69-80 Six has the same 62 cc volume head 77-80 Six has larger cc intake volume...1240 cc vs 1345 cc The 80 head with a hex intake is 1420 cc 65-69 head has 51-53 cc volume head 72-up head(s) have hardened seats
I do....but I won't ship one. Shipping would be astronomical I am sure. Just look locally......on Craig's list, etc.
Rockauto has rebuilt 250 heads for 73 Maverick (non-smog). $258.00 with $75.00 core charge. Got the head set gasket set too for $37.00. Not a bad deal. I would think you could find a local shop that could get you a rebuilt head for about the same. Could be back up and running in no time. - Matt
If you need to buy a head...buy the '77 or later. You will get bigger valves which means less valve shrouding and larger intake log.
Here is a used engine if you want to check into it. It came up under a search for Maverick in the Reno Nevada Craigslist. http://yubasutter.craigslist.org/pts/4786712768.html
That one is a 200cid. The OP is looking for a 250cid. The swap CAN be done, but there's tons of little things that LOOK like they are the same, but they aren't... ask me how I know...
