as everyone may know i just got a 69 thunderbird..when i got it the car wouldnt turn on cus it had battery drainage.. so i bought a new alternator but i kept the old voltage regulator(the one that goes behind the alternator).i finished this 2day it turned on and everything.but when we tried turning it back on it wouldnt turn on..when we turn the key so it can turn on it doesnt even make a noise.you that noise it makes when the starter tries to turn on it didnt even make that.what could it be?
Nuetral start switch, ignition switch, battery or the connections to it, blown fusable link (if the alternator was larger than your old one.) bad solenoid or connections to it, bad cables to the starter or bad connections, bad starter or bad ground. I think that about covers it......
Well I really didn't have time to write all the trouble-shooting techniques for all the possibilities but he only asked what the possible problem could be......... I bet we could get some good information exchanged if he decides to test stuff before he replaces everything on the list. I doubt that it is anything too complex or difficult to fix - but I need more info than "it won't start" or "it won't turn on"
Recheck all the alternator wires, starter solenoid wires, and all connections in that area. Recheck battery voltage to confirm fully charged. Just some quick general tips without much info. Also, all wires should be cleaned up. Good Luck
Did it even start, or did the radio, lights, etc just power on? Did you replace the battery? Check all things Paul said, plus make sure you don't have any thing left on (lights, radio, key on accident, etc)
