ok so i have a 302 in my 71 mav. and a holley 600 vacuum secondaries and the c4 shifts off the vacuum also. it shifts from 1st to 2nd at high rpms even if im driving slow.. and when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it will keep shifting up and down unless i give it enough gas to get to bout 50 or so then it will stay in 3rd or if i jus stop accerating it will stay. also theres not much power when i put the petal to the floor. i kno my carb is running lean and it seems like the secondaries dont open up either but i guess it could be possible that they are stuck open.
    any ideas would be great
    thanks

I think your transmission needs adjusting. Or it's been sitting too much and is gummed up from it. Try adding a bottle of Lucas Transmission Treatment to it. As for the carb, your secondaries are not stuck open. If they were, then it wouldn't be driveable, nor would it idle. They're more'n likely not opening though, the secondary spring Holley installs is pretty stiff, usually the "black" spring, with it the secondaries won't open until around 5000 rpms. I like to install the lightest of the springs (a white or purple) that come with a spring pack. You say it's running lean, how do you know this is so?

i can smell the gas anytime its running unless im driving fast. and i drive my mav everyday, its my only car so im stuck when its under work. i am now thinking it may be the modulator valve but i do still think my carb needs some work. i will try the lucas and let u kno how that works for me.
    thanks
