Hope I ask this question right. Does anyone know the way a YFA carb should act on cold start up normally, the carb without the fast idle cam? I have found lots of info on the carbs with fast idle cams but almost none about the ones without the cam.Maybe I missed something here. Should these carbs idle up on their own warming up? What does the linkage rod from throttle to the choke spring do? Here's my situation:70 Mav, 6cyl,auto.stock everything.5000ft elevation.Cold up here 17 degrees F normally in the morning. rebuilt carb, got it adjusted pretty good car runs good, but doesnt like to start cold.Have to keep it running myself untill warm.Normal? Choke is adjusted pretty close & is fully closed cold.Fully open when warmed up.Has both heat riser tubes from exhuast to air cleaner snorkel & 1/4 stove pipe to choke connected/working. Sorry I'm long winded.Steve
I have worked on many of these. The high idle works when the choke plate is fully closed by opening up the throttle slightly through a linkage. If you know what you are doing, it can be done while the carb is on the car - but the best way to set it is off the car. You need to open the throttle, close the choke, while holding the choke closed release the throttle and then measure the gap between the throttle plate and the venturi wall. Should be open about 1/32" - you measure it with a drill bit. To adjust the gap you need to bend the linkage to open and close it as needed. Here is a picture:
WoW! Acornridgeman thats exactly what I was looking for! I'll pull it off & follow your directions. Thanks guys for all your help. Steve
