I believe 74 was the first year for them in the Comet/Maverick.

I have researched this a bit myself, and what I came up with was the 1975 model year was when they started to introduce the cats on Mavericks, but not all 75's had them, by 1976 model year they all had them.

This is probably another one of those, "depends on what time, what day, the weather, and the mood of the worker". I could have swarn I stripped out a 74 6 cyl with a catalitic converter. But then, I am getting old.

Excuse me, I will chime in now. Thanks to Doug Bauer as I have not been on here in awhile. But I did not foreget. Doug e-mailed me asking me about mine as he remembered I have an all original 1975 Maverick Grabber. Including the exhaust is all original, and is all still there and working.
My Mav was assembled 5/75 in Kansas City,MO and has the V8 and it has the Catalytic Converter on it.

Now what I have always believed was that 1975 was the first year for catalytic converters on cars. Now thats not to say that all model of cars started getting them that year. Some models probably started later. That also not to say that the models that did start to recieve them for the 1975 model year, didn't start to get them in 1974 when the 1975 model year cars were starting to be built.

Thanks, Willie, that's what I thought. I'm sure as with all changes, there are exceptions. Even the DSO would probably effect the use of the catalytic converter.

I'm sure all '76's had them unless they were trucks. (Certain trucks were excluded until after 1983).

Yea I have belonged to the club for a little while now. But just got on here a year ago this Dec. I have been caught up here lately with my SHO club and other message boards and e-mailing list. And yes Dennis I would really like to restore my Grabber. But its in such good shape that I just want to do somethings to it to improve on it for the next nationals.
