I'm having charging issues with my car and need help, I checked my alternator and it is giving out 14 volts and had it checked at auto zone and it checked out good, I bought a new voltage regulator and no change, the wires that come from the alt to the regulator and solenoid are new from cj pony's so I don't think that could be the problem, the battery is about a year old
OK. So why do you think it is a charging issue? Not trying to be difficult, just trying to figure out the relationship between a stall condition and a suspected charging issue. Did you test the alternator current output while running?
I'm with Rusty here. We need more story line to help you sort it. I'm assuming that when the car eventually dies.. it will barely even audibly click the solenoid during a restart attempt? Takes a pretty dead battery to kill an engines ignition system during idle time. Let's attack it from this angle maybe. How long will the car run after the battery has been fully charged? That's where I'd be looking first since bad batteries are not uncommon by any stretch. EDIT: I also see you're in Cali. I lived in Cali for 3 years and I know of lots of dead batteries in that climate. Between there and Texas.. probably at least 5 "defective" batteries bit the dust on me.
The age of the battery has nothing to do with it's ability to take or hold a charge. Take it somewhere and have it load tested.
The battery last about three days on a full charge, the ignition will just click instead of turn over, I've checked the battery while the engine is running and I have about 12 volts and will decrease over time,
load test it and you'll know immediately. basic process of elimination and that's one might big link in the chain right there. to give perspective here.. a bad battery can also take out an alternator over relatively short amount of time too.
OK, now we are getting somewhere. Here is how to test your regulator: http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/regulatortest.html
Wait a minute! You say the alternator has been checked and it is putting out 14 volts, not the greatest! Apparently from one of your other comments you have a voltage tester right? Have you checked the voltage to the battery at 2,500rpms? If so, what is it? Just because there is new wiring doesn't mean squat! Just trying to help!
Yes I have a voltage meter and I will try the 2,500 rpm test, also I had herd that disconnecting the positive cable from the battery while running that it should stay running if its charging and I've tried that but it just dies
