Well, I almost burned my car up this weekend in Kentucky.....almost! Drove my new Maverick over 700 miles, no problems. Left Somerset about 7:30 at night and didn't get back to Louisville until after we ate...which was about midnite. Got up this morning, moved the car around the hotel parking lot to check out. Wilbur Green (Ohio MCCI State Rep) comes over and says, "You're leaking fluid". I shut off the car and look underneath and liquid is pouring out from under the engine all over the place. I pop the hood, and I smell gas. What I found was my 30 year old fuel line with a big crack in it and spewing everywhere. I was VERY lucky it happened when it did. Was a simple parking lot repair thanks to John Ford getting me a 5" hose at the parts store (Thanks, John). This could have happened out on the freeway just 8 hours earlier!!! Whatever you do...go out and check all the rubber fuel lines on your car. This could have been a nasty situation. I was very lucky. I didn't check the fuel lines as I just bought this car two weeks ago and headed out on a big trip with it. Do it...it takes less than two minutes to check them all. You could be saving your Maverick/Comet...and your life!!!
That was a nice save! Glad you caught it in time. Having served 20 years as a Firefighter and 15 years as a Fire Investigator, I can tell you right now that a cracked fuel line in my book was the #2 cause for car fires. #1 was arson for profit (darn chevy's).
Your welcome.....just doing my duty as a friendly host,,,,,,,,,"plus" it gave me the opportunity to get the harley out!
