Has anyone installed a parallel flow condenser from Classic Auto Air?
I got an email from Ron at Classic Auto Air with an attached photo of a green Comet with one of their 11-1020 universal condensers installed. Is that someone on the list? This is the unit he recommended.
In the archives, I saw that “mojo” installed a unit in his car but indicated the part number was 16182.
I see that several have had their originals rebuilt but I would like to upgrade to the parallel.
Those who have done it, can you share your thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Micah

I will chk my invoice again -- but do think that is the one in my car. It is a gud fit. They sent me one w/ the initial shipment that wud not work w/ my setup; upon informing them, they sent me the correct one and had shipper to pick-up the one being returned. They are a gud vendor to deal w/. I will check it agn later tonite.

I checked my invoices again. The 11-1020 univ. unit was the one I had to return - it was to large. I keep or try to keep all my invoices for items purchased for the car. I have not been able to find the #16182 in my car files. I am at a loss to determine where I came up with the part #. I only have been able to come up w/ orig invoice & return invoice. Don't know what I cud have done w/ 2nd invoice . I do know the 11-1020 was/is to large to fit in the car w/o some mods to the car. Sri for giving a part # that I can't justify. Ron was my sale rep., too.

    Mojo,
Well, I'm a little lost as to which one is correct. He is sticking to the 11-1020. Could they have intended to send that one, sent something else and then sent the 11-1020?

This is what Ron emailed me:

I do not know what a 16182 is. That is not a Classic Auto Air part #.

The condenser shown in the picture is:

    11-1020 Condenser 16x18 Parallel Flow $125.00
    12-1001 Filter-Drier Male O-Ring (8" Tall/6x6 MORI Connections) $29.99
19-1003 Drier Circle Clamp Wide $7.50

This is a universal condenser that best matches the size of the opening and is not a direct bolt in. it comes with 4 mounting brackets

Here are some tips for converting to R134A:

Recommended steps to converting your Ford R12 air conditioning system to 134a.
    Systems w/o Suction Valve

    Minimum Requirements
    • Change or restore the filter-drier.
    • Drain the compressor oil and recharge with 134a compatible oil. (PAG or Ester Oil)
    • Insure that the system is clean and free of contaminants (Depending on component condition, this may be a simple matter of blowing out with compressed air or liquid flushing with an air-conditioning flushing agent)
    • Replace or restore all rubber hoses with barrier hose.
    • Install 134a charge port adapters.
    • Charge with 134a between 70-80% of the original R12 charge amount.
    • Replace any o-rings with 134a compatible.

That is possible! I can't say cuz it's been 3 1/2 yrs ago and I don't have the paperwork to say otherwise. Take the 11-1020, it may be the correct unit.

I will as soon as I can find them. I recently changed my computers and OS and kind of in a state of learning a lot of things. There should be some in my gallery. If I can't find them soon I will take some new pix.

I used a universal parallel flow as well but it was from a local shop that specializes in automotive AC repairs.
