Question 1: Are you using all the correct V8 Clutch linkage parts? ... NONE of the 6-cylinder parts will work without major fabrication.

Question 2: As far as I know all of us who have a clutch with V8 & headers use Hooker 6901's ... they are properly bent to clear the cluch linkage & z-bar. Is this what you are using?

If you answer 1 & 2 both yes ... you have to install the two halves of the factory V8 z-bar separately after the header is in and the bolt them together. Can't help if you answered either of the questions no ....

Assuming you have the V8 linkage...
The headers are the important part. They must have the 2 tubes riding low and 2 riding high, to allow for the linkage to pass through the middle.
This style is the basic cookie cutter design for SBF headers over the years. Most makers did it. Hedman recently changed it's design to auto only. There is also a maker that did/does 3 pipes low and one high. It looks like it would work, but I have never used it.
I have used Hooker, Blackjack, Cyclone, and old style Hedmans without any problems.

I'm running an old set of Blackjack headers and 66 Mustang linkage. The bottom "arm" of the bellcrank had to be cut 3/4 of the way through, bent and rewelded to clear my tubes and the Lakewood bellhousing.

If you don't have stock, then you are in a position of "screw with it til it works".

The old headers, Lakewood, 4 speed, all worked together flawlessly with stock Z bar.
