THe wire that attaches to the + side of the coil has 12 volt going to it as long as it isn't hooked up to the coil. When I hook it up and put the voltmeter to the + side of the coil, it only reads about 8 volts. Is this right or do I have a problem? I have already replaced the coil and I get the same thing. I am trying to figure out why my car is skipping. I have a 302 with dual spark (or whatever it is called) disturbtor and box in it. Thanks Stephen
Sounds about right. In the run position the voltage is reduced by going through resistive wire. If you turn the key to the start position, you should have the full 12V.
Dennis is exactly right. Also, with cars this age, check for condition of the wiring and clean up all grounds. Dan
That sounds right .6 to 9 when running. dual points can be a bugger got to check dwell and point gap .What kind of box any names on it.
If you have the factory 'Dura Spark' system, there are no points in the distributor. Your miss is probably some other cause.
