I installed springs from Kanter. They were for 1972 Comet GT, V8, Power Steering, Disc Brakes Manuel, No AC. Car is THREE inches higher in front now. :slap: :( What the hey. Any feedback? Thanks

they must have sent you the offroad package springs.

hehh sorry... just had to poke

no idea why it would be 3". was the front just way to low? or is it totally obvious that the car is way to high... post a pic so we can see what it looks like

maybe you can cut a couple coils out of it to get it back down... one solution.. the springs they sent you could have been for a later year with all the options.. so its made for a much heavier weight car....

    I assume you have a V8.

I would check the Part Numbers to see if you received what they actually said they sent you first.

I'd then take a picture of the car and send it to them - asking for shorter springs.

They might tell you that you have to cut a couple of coils off too. I believe Moroso has that footnote on their drag springs for our V8 cars.

The ones I got were the same way. That was fine by me, I was going to cut them down to drop the front a bit anyway.

Simon might be right...I was looking at JC Whitney last week and they sell them 3" taller for Off-road...

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
all after market springs if you ask me will rasie the car even if its says it will drop it one inch. been there done that with three differant brand springs.

these spring companies really don't make them for a mavericks. it a generic spring for lets say the most popular car, ergo in the ford group around those years.... thus it being a mustang. that's probably what you got. if you look at there catalog you'll know exactly what i mean.

the only time these spring companies are right on is when its a newer car... even then things aren't right.

I agree with this 100%. When I bought new front springs for mine I got them for a 6 cyl with the lightest rating I could find. I still had to cut them.

All of this is why I always say just cut the springs you have and be done with it. :)

But, newer springs will have a fresher firmness to them. Mine rides MUCH better now that I have stiffer, new springs.

Your new springs will settle over time, but they won't settle three inches. You may have been sent the wrong springs, or you may just have to cut them to get the height you desire...

Same here, I bought 1" lowering springs, once installed, the car sat at the same height as the old springs did, and there was a big difference with the 2 side by side out of the car.

Man does this bring back bad memories. The problem is that there are so many variables when it comes to spring rates. V-8 vs I-6 vs A/C blah blah blah... so there is no set formula for cutting a certain number of coils for a predictable result. You have to cut a little at a time to fine tune it but if you cut too much it's all over. I'm all for trial and error but the damn things are such a pain in the behind to install that it makes you want to cry. I have 6cyl. springs on my V8 car and I'm still not 100% happy with the stance. This is probably my least favorite project when it comes to these cars. I hope you can find something that works for you.

:2cents: Everyone I`ve ever known who bought New front coils for any type of car ended up unhappy because the cars all sat up in the front too high.

Every car I`ve ever delt with cutting the springs on (6 cars ,all types) ended up with the desired stance
and the ride and handleing improved dramatically.

I agree...just take a little off at a time. I started with one full coil (or maybe it was half...I would have to check my website to verify that). Once you take a chunk off and set it back on the car, you have a better idea how much to take off to get a desired amount of drop.

I ended up doing 3 cuts before I was happy.

i have a 6 cyl car.. i bought v-8 coils from Checker Auto Parts, and i cut out 1 coil.. i like the stance... but i wish the front end was a little stiffer. it seems to move around too much over bumps

but then again i need a suspension upgrade..

Thanks Guys for the replys. I cut half a coli today. Did not put back together yet. Have to go out of town for work next week. Check it out next week end. Should have left the stock springs in. I am rebuilding the front end complete and thought I should have new springs to go with all the new parts. Oh well, live and learn.
