I was just curious how difficult this would be. I am wanting to buy a GT outright if I can but I can't seem to find any GT's for sale in my price range. I did see a Comet for sale but it wasn't a GT so I wasn't sure how hard it would be to turn one into a GT. Thanks for your help...:tiphat:

I just did a GT clone. To do it you would need a bad GT body. With complete interior. Remove the drip rail moulding, side moldings and rocker panel molding. Remove the Comet script everywhere except the trunk lid. (this only applies to 1971 and 1972 models. All the parts need to go on a good 2 door body.

I appreciate that answer. Do you have any pics of the differences between the two models? I guess my big debate is if I want to start with a GT which seem harder to find or get a regular 2Dr and convert it. Thanks again for the answers.

Also I keep forgetting to ask this too...Is it possible to convert a Maverick into a Comet? This may sound like an odd request but mavericks are way easier to find and my goal is to restore a car that looks like my dads original 72 Comet GT which I will be posting pics of later. Thanks again...

Besides swapping the front Grill, hood and bumper you would need to cut the rear taillight panel out of a Comet and weld it into the Maverick ... they are totally different ...

If you have some welding talent, replacing the tailight panel is not that hard. Next hardest thing is finding a comet tailight panel if you were to go the Maverick to Comet swap. Hood and grill is a no brainer, but finding the parts can once again prove to be tuff. Hope you find what you need and welcome.

Not really that hard to convert. My 73 Comet LDO/GT is a good example. Just need a parts car to get the hood scoop, sport mirrors, black grill, black headlight bezels, seats & black out the tailight panel. Optional factory aluminum mags. You can still get GT decals that run down the sides. They're on Ebay all the time.

I'm willing to travel or have one shipped....:) :)
I'm hurting bad for a Comet...it's something I've been wanting to do with my dad for years since I always joke and say it's my fault he had to sell it. Comets are just so hard to find.
