A very original 72 Grabber is currently on ebay & the bidding is already up to $4000 & the reserve has been met. Looks like it's worth $4600 to me...lol Item# 2404362980 I'd provide a link, but I'm not very computer savy.
Here it is: Grabber Link on eBay It's pretty clean on the outside. The interior could use some work. Nice car for all original, though. They aren't "factory mags", but that's OK. Also looks like a radial tread on that "original spare tire". lol
well if i had the 4 grand, i'd jump on it . when you consider what it costs to fix up an already decent mav... many of you have seen my car. ain't real pretty but just in disc brake conversion (all new everything except the spindles themselves) buckets some ball joints sportlamps, heater core, window washer pump... and a lot of nickel and dime stuff, i am into the car for well over a thousand. an already sweet grabber that (imo) needs a disc brake conversion is well worth the money. to put it in perspective, NOS tail light lenses for my 71 karmann ghia go for 100 to 125 a pair! buy the grabber!
Sweet I've been watching that car to see what it sells for. That looks like a well optioned very solid Grabber. I think if anyone gets it for $4,000 that is an awesome deal. If only I was still looking for a project this one would have been much easier than my current one. Anyone know what the other two decals on the trunk lid may be? Dan
I know back in the day when you went to Sears and got new tires...they would put a sticker like that in your trunk. I bet that is what it is.
Sorry to ask a newbie question...but what exactly is the difference between a "grabber" maverick and a regular maverick?
wheeww whats the difference between a regular mustang and a GT mustang? it's just about the same lines...such as mercury comet GT, maverick has the grabber. the sportier version ...with spoiler, sometimes different grille, and sporty hood that goes for alot of money these days and i have been blessed to have 3! just another version of the mav that has us ford junkies drooling over junkyards trying to find every last one! ~Dan~
You guys are right about the comparative value of the Mavs coming up. I just received the new NADA classic pricing guides and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the general values have come up, especially on the limited production versions such as the Sprints, Grabbers, and Stallions. Realistically, it is hard to say at this point if it is because the general collector's market is up due to people using cars as an investment since what happened to the general investment market since 9-11 or if it is because others have found Mavs also. Either way, it benefits all of us here in this community. Now keep in mind that when you look at market values, you are looking at a stock vehicle, not a modified one. The value of modified cars varies with what was done and, of course, what someone is willing to pay for it. Many an owner has ended up "married" to his car because he insisted on wanting what the guide books said it was worth but nobody was willing to pay that. Fortunately, our Mavs/Comets haven't seemed to fall into that category. maybe it is because the majority of us are realistic about wat we have and are just waiting for their value to rise naturally as more find out what we already know....WE HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL!!
Actually the Grabber package was just a paint & trim option. It had nothing to do with performance because there was no performance packages available for the Maverick and Comet. In 70 it was strictly a hood & side stripe paint job with a spoiler and racing mirrors. In 71 & 72 they added the sport lamps in the grill and the much sought after Grabber hood. In 73 the hood was dropped back to a stock unit. The sport lamps became standard running & turn signals. In 74 thru 76 the spoiler was dropped. Buckets, floor shifter, 302's and anything else you wanted was another option in addition to the Grabber package.
Hey Wes, do they actually mention the Sprint? I get a new copy of Car & Truck Collector Market Guide every year at Carlisle. While the Grabber, Stallion, and Comet GT are listed, they have never named the Sprint in the Maverick (or Pinto) catagory. They do, of course, have it listed in the Mustang section.
Dennis, I'm at work killing time right now and don't have the books with me. I'll look them up and let you know. I do know that the Stallions and Grabbers are in the book. This book I have is just for classic and collectors cars through 1984. NADA has specialty books for everything now.
In 73 the hood was dropped back to a stock unit. Mavaholic said that. So there was no grabber hood after 73? Or was it an option. I'm confused now... I'm gonna go find my 74 brochure...
