I put in new points and a condenser, but I forgot where wire "A" goes. I have it connected to the points, but I was wondering if it supposed to be connected to the screw marked "B"? (I know I should pay closer attention) Also what is the technical name for this piece. I know it works with, and is attached near the carb. Once again, thanks for any help Glen
Your "A" wire goes from the points to the negative side of the coil. The other part has something to do with helping the car idle when it's cold out if I remember right. That's one of those parts I just took off and tossed...
thanks, Yep I traced the wire back to the coil. But I guess my main question is, do I have wire "A" hooked up right? and thanks craig... Glen
It looks like it is hooked up correctly, it connects to the points terminal with the wire from the condenser. Neither wire should be grounded with the points open. With the points closed they are both grounded.
The dashpot is there to prevent the car from stalling when you suddenly lift your foot off the gas. When you take your foot off the gas, the carb arm hits it, and its supposed to push the arm back up, briefly to prevent stalling. Most cars will run fine without it.
Thanks to all. I figured out why it wouldn't start. When I connected wite A to the points, and tightened it down, it moved and grounded out against the base of the distributor, once I fixed that, it ran like a champ. Again thanks for the replys GLen
