i was at home taking all the chrome off my car to be painted Monday because i THOUGHT i was 90% done with all the big and little things, so it began to rain so i said i will just sit in the car and chill out... all of a sudden i saw that water start to run all last month it rained no water on floor, i really thought dodged a bullet with this car cause the floor pans was perfect and i thought maybe the previous owner took care of it cause every one ive had leaked... just imagine getting ready to get your car painted and all of a sudden have a car thats a swimming pool... really messed up my day....
If you just took off your windshield chrome it could just be the seal leaking now. When it dries out, pour a gallon of water down the cowl and hope it's the windshield
I plan to not drive in the rain and the car lives in the garage.. Not sure if mine leaks. Definetly would be a downer..
That cowl repair ruined my day too! I would still take Bob's advise and pour water down the cowl vent, just to be sure. My w/s rubber split at one of the seams and it poured in by the gallon.
i poured water down the cowl and it poured out the passenger side....guess i know what i will be doing next weekend
Now your feelings are "officially" hurt I went through the very same thing as did many other board members. Do a search on the cowl repair subject and you will find many tips that may help you along your journey. Post some photos of the cowl when you get a chance
If I had to repair my cowl again Id use panel adhesive and alot of Harbor junk clamps to put it back on. I found some kits (At our local body shop suply) SEM makes so you dont have to buy a gun to aply it. Thier kits have throw away aplicators.
Whats suppose to happen when you pour water down the vent? Does the water go around the cowel and drain on the inside of the fender?
Thats exactly what is supposed to happen, but in odd cases ive seen them fill up withe leaves and pine needles and show the signs of a rotted cowl also if the drains are blocked. Always get a visual conformation on rust and check the drains before ripping your car apart.
take a flashlight and look down in the vent. if you do this at night you can see both ends of the cowl next to the hats. in the daylight i have put a cover over me and the cowl to make it dark and see the same thing...
i was wondering if this will help solve my problem..making the job just a little easier... http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=CVRQ+01
Or cut out the vents in the cowl and weld it up. It just popped into my head. Not sure if its a viable option or not. HAs anyone done a cowl vent delete?? Doesnt ring a bell for me.
That might work if your only rot is in your cowl hat rings - I drilled out all of my spot welds on my cowl cover and I found that both of my hats were shot so i bought Mustang hats from CJ Pony Parts, cut out what I needed and welded them in solid - I also took a wire wheel in my drill and went over the entire inside surface of the cowl and what I found were small rot pin holes in a few area - one area I replaced with steel and a couple of others I mixed up a nice batch of JB Weld and covered the pin holes - then 2 solid coats of Rust Bullet and the entire cowl is solid as a rock now - I still have to weld the cover back on but that is on the list of things to do
