is it possible to put a 351w in a 73 mercury comet gt? Will it hook up to the stock 3 speed manual trans? Im saving to get a crate engine, im trying to decide whether to get a 302 or a 351w and spend a lil more money for a lot more hp. Heres the link to the company im looking at.

Curious to know why you are going across the country when you are so near the motor city capital? I'm thinking shipping expense could be retained and applied to the motor itself.

It will take some work...

351 complicates things a bit, you can search and read the war stories. In the next month I'll be cutting out my towers and doing a test fit with a 351 and you'd be welcome to come by and see in person what it takes before you commit to it yourself. My dealership is a couple miles from you, I sent you a pm a while back and can resend if you don't still have it.

Don't get why you'd wanna up the HP and stick with a 3 spd.

Well, streamliner, im 16 and that is my ultimate goal. To have a new engine, trans, drive shaft, and a new posi rear end. As i said, im 16, i dont make enough money to do everything i want to do to it at a single point in time. Its a work in progress we'll just say. But would that 302 and/or 351w hook up to the stock trans?

Better bet IMO is to save for a 347. Fits the same as a 302 so you don't have to mod the shock towers at all and gives you more than enough HP for the street.:)

If u wanna do it right and take full advantage of ur 351 it is a lot of time and money. I set my motor back 4", cut the towers a lil bit and made custom headers that u remove from inside the cab of the car. It's a lot of work just know that before u dive into the 351

Ok just looked at the link and if those are the motors ur lookin at go with the 302 it barley has less hp than the 351 and save urself the headache. If ur gonna spend the time to make the 351 fit it needs to be a custom built badass

If ur gonna put all that stuff in it u should just go to a junk yard grab a block and have the whole thing rebuilt. And the way u want it built
