Hey guys, so I was wondering if anyone has swapped an engine like this into their mav/comet? If so then have they had a good experience with it or is there a better option for our cars? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6007-m50/overview/ I did some searching on google and this site, but I couldnt find any threads.
I think there are some people who have, but the only issue is that it will not fit between the shock towers of a stock car. You will need to cut the shock towers out. Even with notched shock towers the 4.6L or 5.0L will not fit, it's just too wide. I have a 351w with notched towers.........and they are still too close together for a SOHC or DOHC 4.6l/5.0l. If you are willing to cut the towers out they will fit. http://www.rcmotorsportsinc.com/index.html
Got it in w/ the batt and coolant/wshield containers in stock location. Wud'nt hve thought it possible. Like to see some more/better pix of that one.
lol.. he must be working that 2nd job just to pay for it. I completely undertsnad the desire to be different and all.. but that's a hell of a lot of work.. not to mention cash.. to get 400-500 horsies stuffed in there. Course.. a nice supercharger bolted on top would let you have your cake and eat it too. Damned nice install for sure though.
The DOHC is about 30"w, 29"tall and 28" long, the SOHC is about 26"w, 26"tall and 28 long. The 302 is about 18.75" wide and the 351 is about 21" wide.
if you were going that route and had the time you could go to the local machine shop and show them that page and tell them you want the same thing it will cost you less. or you can spend the same money and get better/stronger parts inside. like this example my 347 has cost me right about $3800 without the valve covers intake and carb Im coming in over 500 hp and everything inside is top grade forged parts and this one from summit cost alot more and doesnt have as good of parts in it http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mll-bp3472ctc/overview/
yeah Im talking about the motor in the in the original post. usually you can build any engine with better parts at the machine shop for the same money or even less than buying a crate engine. the nice thing about crate motors is theyre usually turn key with some adjustments
that rule usually only applies to overhead valve motors that are ancient like the ones we typically use. Building these types of all aluminum overhead cam motors(especially four cams) is much more expensive and time consuming than the one you put together youself there. Not to mention that the cores are harder to come by and priced much higher and parts availability is considerably more limited with a small halo effect as well. If you wanna be current with the latest tech.. it'll cost ya. But I do agree.. there is something to be saved on the builders fee side of things if you do it yourself. I hate building those things and phasing non-stock type cams and all that crap can be a real pain compared to simply degreeing the typical overhead valve type setup.
Had these 5.0 Coyote motors been available before I built my 302 I would have gone that route. The problem now is that I already have computer, wiring harness and everything to drop my 5.0 302 into my car. I would lose so much if I tried to sell it now, but I do find it tempting. That engine would be cool to have.
